One would think that in a state known for its friendly people and laid back lifestyle, the people (and I use that term lightly) who work in the (stupid) Oregon Department of Motor Vehicles are absolutely no use to anyone.
Not a single person.
I am having a bear of a time getting my car titled because of a mistake made two owners ago on the registration. It was a mistake made three owners ago whe the VIN was written down wrong. Now, I wouldn’t be so pissed about this unless the the owner who screwed up the paperwork was the (stupid) CITY OF PORTLAND. Yeah… The City. The best part about this situation is that since they screwed up the paperwork (because, I can only assume, they cant read) I cant get a title for my car, which means that I am curently driving my car illegally in the State of Washington.
Why is it illegal, you ask? Allow me to elaborate.
When I found out that my title was null-and-void due to the (stupid) city’s mistake, they told me, knowing full well that I was from Washington, that I needed a trip permit so that I didn’t get pulled over. Okay, Ill bite, gimme one of those. Easy fix, you think? Not so much. Unfortunately, the neglected to tell me, that temporary tag is not legal in Washington... Where I live. And drive.
Bastards.
So yeah, I am frustrated with the (stupid) Oregon DMV, but the worst part is that they are simply not helpful in any way. I understand that the people who work in the DMV are tired of living and have a chip on their shoulder the size of oprahs ego, due mainly to their poor gum-to-tooth ratio and apparent inability to smile or have any warmth in their tiny, icy heart, but that does not mean in any way that they have to treat people like shit. Using the ability to withhold a persons car title from them is the saddest power trip that I have ever witnessed, especially when that power comes from a problem vested in your departments own inability to perform simple tasks like copying numbers onto paper.
So I am currently screwed completely in that I have 60 days to attain a title for my car, a title that Oregon is keeping from me. Because they screwed up. Gah.
All told, I think Beth put it best when she said “it’s nice to know when THEY screw up YOU pay.”
