There are many thigns taht I will not abide in my life. Key among those is stupidity.
Now, don’t get me wrong, I am fully cognisant of the fact that if I were to avoid all of the stupid people in this world, I would spend my life on the moon. Indeed, despite my hugely charming *cough* exterior persona I harbor a deeply held belief in the overarching stupidity of the world at large. I am completely of the feeling that individual people are often awesome, as is evidenced by the friends that I keep (they are all awesome people). That being said, there seem to be a vast majority out there whom are not awesome. They are in fact, Stupid.
These people out there whom I consider stupid seem to share the idea that they are for some reason better than everyone around them. Despite the obvious implications of saying that I don’t feel this way about people (as there are a few people in the world whom I know, beyond the shadow of a doubt, that I am better than), I like to see myself as being on the same plain as any other person, at least at first. Human beings are in my estimation just that, human beings. No one has the right to say that they are better than me or treat me like I am below them. I say all of this because of the people that I have to deal with at work.
Now I work in retail. I love the customer service industry, I am a friendly guy and the few people that I meet that dont fall into the above classification enrich my day in a way that I can’t really describe. Despite these few people, the average customer I have to deal with is an older, retired person who has lived their life and has nothing better to do than come into the store and judge those who work there. One should not presume that they are above someone becasue they work at a place like starbucks. They should not assume that they are so comfortable with the lovable baristas that they can make statements about their looks, their life, or any of that. I can assure you that we are more than happy to trade sprots talk, or crack a joke, but could give a shit about your dogs operation or your moms trip to Guatemala or what the hell ever you are babbling inanely about. Likewiseplease dont be suprised when, after marching to the counter and snapping off an order like some Paris Island Gunnery Sargent, our smile and friendliness disapears and you are treated like you are waiting in line for the DMV, because to us, that is what you have become.
All told, these people are stupid. They are elitist morons who don’t grasp the fundamental and basic fact that we, as a people live on the same planet and are thus subject to the same forces and principles that apply to all life on our rock; that if we don’t help each other, than we are destined to destroy each other.
I don’t know, maybe I’m thinking wishfully here, but I hope that someday people wont feel the need to prove that they are better tha someone by making snide remarks or being rude for no reason whatsoever. I hope that people reading this understand that we who are serving your food/drinks/whatever.
Don’t bite the hand that feeds you.
That is my customer service rant. It won’t happen again, but I had to get that off my chest.
